The beginning

Two weeks ago my life changed. In the space of 5 minutes, I lost most of the sight in my left eye. My world became blurry – I couldn’t read my computer screen at arms length.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had symptoms, but it’s the first time my vision has been effected.

About 8 years ago, my left leg went numb from the knee down. The doctor blindfolded me and poked my leg with a needle in about 40 different places. The friend who was with me said they put the needle in pretty far and twisted it. I wouldn’t know. I couldn’t feel any of it.

They did an MRI. The neurologist showed me the results and explained what the differently colored spots meant.  She  told me that I “most likely” had Multiple Sclerosis, but they couldn’t diagnose until I had at least one other flare up. She ordered a 4 prong cane for me, told me that the numbness would probably go away in a few weeks. I was told to call her office or go back to the ER when I had more symptoms.

When the leg cleared up, I was left with residual numbness in my little toe and occasional numbness throughout my calf. Eventually, these symptoms became ‘normal’ to me and I stopped noticing them.

I started developing joint pain. I assumed it was early onset arthritis. I was only in my late 20’s, but hey.. what else could it be. My doctor agreed and treated me for arthritis.

Tell me your thoughts.
