I’ve received several emails from readers asking about my health in this absence. I’m fine. Good, in fact. The MS is still a minimal problem in my life. I continue to manage the Multiple Sclerosis with diet, herbs, supplement, meditation, EFT, and Reiki.
Since we’ve last talked I’ve taught some classes, and had some classes cancelled. I created an amazing recipe to use on sunburn, eczema , and other skin problems. I’ve dabbled with some craft projects, and I’ve done a lot of writing. Plus, my husband and I have decided to open a copywriting and design company. ‘ elbow deep in the launching of that business.
As for msquill…. I was considering letting it go. See, readership has been low for the past several years. Reader participation has always been a difficult thing here, and I was feeling like msquill didn’t matter. I had a ridiculously difficult time marketing this website, and I couldn’t figure out why that might be.
I became frustrated. It felt like so very few people cared about natural health. For the life of me I can’t understand why that would be. Maintaining your own health, safely, naturally, without the use of man-made chemicals and fake food, is vitally important to each individual, the next generation and the world as a whole. I mean, seriously .. NOBODY cares more about your health than you and your family do. No doctor, nurse, or politician would put your (or your family’s) health and safety above their own well-being. And yet millions of Americans, complete strangers to make medical and health decisions for them simply because the stranger in question completed medical school
That whole idea simply baffles me.
I’m very much an independent thinker. I’ve taught my kids to be independent thinkers, too. Yes, listen to what the experts say. In theory, they are more widely read on the their topics, and have more experience with the topic at hand than you do —But it is VITAL to do your own reading from primary sources, and your own learning from as many sources and viewpoints as you can find, so that you acquire enough conflicting and differing information so you can decide what YOU believe, and make the decision yourself.
It’s always seemed to me that the people who understand this fact are in the minority.
And that’s frustrating for me.
Starting msquill, all those years ago, I assumed that people with MS and other autoimmune conditions would be interested in what I had to say. I mean.. there are a very limited number of people on this Earth who have recovered from Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I am not the only one, but I am one of a relatively few.
Many of the others have done something similar to msquill. They started blogs, they started businesses, they became Health Coaches to teach others how to do it to.
And most of them had the exact same problems I do.
Their websites got little traffic. They struggled to get the word out. In short, it seemed as if nobody could see them
In light of the recent revelations about censoring by Facebook, news outlets, Google, and the Internet search algorithms in general, our difficulties make sense.
I’m NOT saying “natural health people are being censored.” I’m not saying “people who have recovered from Multiple Sclerosis naturally are being censored.” Heck, I’m not even claiming that “msquill is being censored.”
What AM I saying? That it is difficult to make yourself heard when you are in the minority. Difficult, but NOT impossible.
After a lot of soul-searching, I’ve come to the conclusion that I believe the work I’ve been trying to do here at msquill, and IRL, is important– Vital– even. Not only am I using my N.D degree, and designation as a minister to teach people how to heal themselves the way nature/God/Spirit/choose your preferred name intended, I am ALSO teaching people how to stand up and go against the politically charged wheel of “societal progress.” I’m teaching them how to stand up for themselves, their families, and their ideals.
So.. I’m not walking away from msquill. I am coming back. Not only will I talk about health, wellness, herbs, Reiki, EFT, nutrition, supplements and all the rest, but I will also speak of spirituality, humanity, politics as it relates to heath and freedom and any other topic think is relevant to maintaining health without the use of pharmaceuticals and surgery.

Not sure what EFT is. Glad that you are doing good. I too have SPMS and soldiering on. PT, visceral manipulation and a very progressive ND is the formula now.
I wish you a lot of luck with your new endeavors

Jennifer,
EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Technique. Also known as “Tapping.” It’s based on the ancient ideas of energy points and meridians within the body. The short version is that by tapping on specific points, in a specific order a person can reduce the emotional trauma and upset associated with specific memories. It’s been used successfully to help heal returning soldiers of combat related EFT, it’s been used to help people heal a variety of phobia, hang up and illness. I’ve had success using EFT with active asthma attacks, and some MS symptoms.
If you ever want/need individual coaching on managing the MS, let me know. My rates for individual coaching for people with autoimmune issues are on a love-offering bases. Which amounts to.. “pay me what you can, when you can” and I barter. I won’t turn anybody away for lack of $.

Hi! Good to see a post from you! I think the problem is less you and more that people appear to be going back to their in-the-face lives. Social media is so hateful and angry that I am not there much. I’m not online much. But I read what you have to say. Intelligent conversation and information are important to me. So, I’m glad to hear you are staying! I need to do some of that myself with my blog.

Cathy, I haven’t been on Facebook for years. I’ve been having trouble establishing an on-line presence with msquill for years. I also do a lot of face-to-face marketing, but the state I live in makes it impossible.
Oddly enough, I can legally practice in every state around us, but it’s illegal for me to practice as an ND here. The law says that you can only practice as an ND if you’re licensed in your previous state of residence. Our previous state didn’t require, nor did it offer licenses, for naturopaths. The state officials here actively go after people who use natural health practitioners. I’ve consulted with three different lawyers who specialize in health and medical law, looking for ways I can legally help clients as a Naturopath. Those three lawyers, gave me 4 different answers.
I took certifications as a Health Coach in addition to being a minister, and degreed Naturopth. Between the Health Coach certification, and the minister designation, I’m completely legal. But, natural health is so vilified here that potential clients are afraid to to work with me, because they’re afraid of being prosecuted.
That’s where a lot of my frustration comes from.

Where is the like button???!!!!????

Hi Sara!!

Hmmmm. I think you probably have more silent followers like me. Ive been reading and learning but not one to make lots of comments. I guess what I’m trying to say is we need to let you know we are actually here 🙂
I do think you need to reconsider having a Facebook page as there’s lots of traffic there. Thanks for all you do.
Last note: the well known people that have managed to beat MS have all turned into greedy blood suckers of their own peers. I am not against making a profit but Why in God’s name would one create products exactly like what already exists and charge outrageous amounts of money to offer advice knowing that the MSers are in the same spot or worse than were they dragged themselves out of? Its so refreshing to see that you have a heart. Thank again.

Ivy,
I agree there is probably a good deal of traffic to be found on Facebook, but I have a family situation that makes it unwise for me to have an account there. Plus, to be honest, with all the recent publicity about information selling, info sharing, and censoring potentially going on with Facebook and Google, I just don’t want to be there. When I had a Facebook account for msquill, I saw very little traffic from it. In fact, even my husband (who was not only subscribed to my page, but was also an Admin ) couldn’t see my FB posts. I left FB for family privacy reasons about 4 years ago. and I don’t miss it.
On the other hand, I DO have an account on Minds.
I can’t speak for what other people have done. Personally, I know three other people who have recovered from MS. One has SPMS and the other two have RRMS. The three of them also started websites and coaching businesses in an attempt to help people recover. One is doing spectacularly well on a local level. She lives in an are that is very friendly toward natural health. She teaches local classes, does workshops and coaches individual clients. But- she struggles to establish and maintain a Web presence. The other two have problems similar to what I’ve experienced — lack of interest in natural health locally, and difficulty establishing an Internet presence.
I’m sure there are people out there who do try to take advantage and over charge. I just don’t personally know any of them. Then again, I don’t really interact with the “health community” or the “ms community.”
I’m glad you’ve found information here that is of value to you. My goal here is simply to help people recover.
ivy
I guess I should mention the blood suckers by name: Dr. Amy Myers, Dr. Wahls, Ann Boroch are three that are making mega bucks off the MS community…and there are more I can mention by name. Their products and services are extremely expensive

I’ve heard of them.. I’ve read some of their stuff. But I don’t know them personally.

I’m so happy to hear that Msquill will continue. There are so few people writing about natural ways to stay healthy and what with Big Pharma pushing their agenda, we need people like you and your blog to find and report on the various things we could try to maintain our health in a world that seems to care less and less about good nourishment or caring for the land and the animals we look to for sustenance. Good luck and blessings to you regarding your own health.
ydavis
Thanks, Anne. I’m glad you’re here.
